St Peter Port Breakwater Inscriptions

December 2016

Inscriptions were made on the south side of the St Peter Port Breakwater by members of the liberation troops of Force 135, some of which were from the Royal Engineers 'RE' and Royal Artillery 'RA'. In places along the breakwater it is possible to read names such as 'Hughes' and '614 Reg'.

The cement on which the inscriptions were made was placed when the anti-landing poles were removed in 1945.

This information was provided by the Channel Islands Occupation Society, who are in the process of trying to confirm the names and units with archive documents.

Please exercise caution when visiting the area, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
