At 8:50 AM on Friday 18th June, Guernsey Coastguard was made aware of a man overboard from a French fishing boat approximately 20 miles west of Alderney. The French Coastguard coordinated the incident and the initial search involved several other fishing vessels that
were in the area.
At 9:05 AM the French Coastguard requested the launch of Alderney RNLI Lifeboat "Roy Barker 1" to assist in the search and recovery. A French military helicopter and lifeboat were also tasked.
Alderney Coastguard paged Alderney Lifeboat and she arrived on scene at 10:30AM. The casualty was located by the French helicopter and was winched onboard but was declared deceased. A further injured person was winched off the casualty vessel and transferred to a French hospital.
Alderney Lifeboat remained on scene to escort the casualty vessel until relieved by the French SNSM Lifeboat "Mona Rigolet". She returned to Braye Harbour at 12:42 PM.
