St Sampson's Marina Sill Gate

Repairs to the St Sampson's Marina sill gate are almost complete following extensive maintenance to the structure and control systems during the recent winter period.

The sill gate was locked in the upright position in September 2018 due to a control pin and bearing failure.

Since November 2018, a temporary dam had been placed in position whilst contractors Siteweld, alongside Guernsey Harbours technical staff and commercial dive teams, have been working around all suitable weather and tidal conditions to carry out the repairs.

Head of Technical and Estate Services - Ports Martyn Stanfield said:

"We are extremely pleased the structural and control mechanism repairs to the gate are now complete. However, we are now working to fix the control signals for the safe entry and exit of vessels at St Sampson's for the summer season. Ravestein from the Netherlands has manufactured all the parts required and they arrived in January for fitting around available of tidal windows. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the majority of boat owners who have their vessels at St Sampson's whilst the repairs have been taking place."

Guernsey Harbours anticipates the control signals at St Sampson's will be operational by Monday 1st April 2019.
