St Peter Port ALB & ILB Launched to Surfer in Distress

At 18:03 on 05th October 2021, the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre (JESCC) received a call from a member of the public reporting that a surfer had become separated from his surfboard and was struggling in water at Vazon bay on the West coast of Guernsey.

The St Peter Port, all weather lifeboat (Spirit of Guernsey) and the Inshore lifeboat (Elizabeth and Margaret Milligan) were paged for immediate launch with both leaving the Harbour at 18:23.

A Coastguard officer also attended at the scene arriving there at 18:26, by which time the surfer had managed to make his own way back to shore.

Having been in the water for some time, the Surfer was checked by staff from St John's Ambulance who found that he was not suffering from any ill effects after his ordeal. Both Lifeboats were stood down at 18:30 and were back on station by 18:46.
