Inshore Lifeboat rescues person cut off by tide

On Good Friday morning, Guernsey Coastguard was alerted to a person cut off by the tide on a rocky outcrop opposite the Halfway at Belle Greve Bay. Whilst initial investigations determined that the man was fishing, latter reports suggested that he might require some assistance.

At 10:26 the St Peter Port Inshore Lifeboat was launched to conduct a welfare check on the man and to render assistance if required. The Inshore Lifeboat was on scene four minutes later and after putting crewmen onto the rock to assess the situation, the casualty was recovered to the lifeboat. Good conditions allowed the Inshore Lifeboat to land the casualty safely ashore on the shingle beach.

A spokesman from Guernsey Coastguard said, "Whilst people can continue to access the coast during their two hours of permitted exercise whilst controls are in place to prevent COVID-19, they are strongly advised to check weather forecasts, sea conditions and tide times and not to stray into areas which might put themselves or others in danger. If people are in trouble they should call Guernsey Coastguard via 999/112 or VHF Channel 16 immediately."
