Walk ashore bridge and pontoons repaired

The walk ashore bridge, which links the St Peter Port Harbour swan pool pontoons and the Crown Pier, has now reopened.

It means access has been restored from Crown Pier to vessels in the Swan Pool Marina in St Peter Port for visiting vessels.

The structure was damaged due to the strong winds that affected the Harbour in the early hours of the 30th July 2019

Guernsey's Harbourmaster Captain David Barker said:

"From the first indications that the storm had caused damage on Tuesday night, this has been a fantastic team effort to ensure the continued safety of our visiting boats and their crews, and to keep our marina open for business as usual. The emergency services and Guernsey Harbours staff have gone the extra mile, and I would also like to thank Island Rib Voyages Limited for providing an interim taxi service at short notice. Although the walk-ashore bridge is back in place, the structure will close temporarily between 06:00 and 09:00 local time tomorrow, 2nd August. This is to allow our maintenance team to fit the final replacement pontoon, which has been manufactured in our workshops. Throughout, this has been a typical example of how Guernsey's maritime community steps up to help one another, and to make this such a great place to live and visit."

Guernsey Harbours' Technical Services Manager Mark Rive said:

"The whole maintenance team have worked very hard to ensure this key part of harbour infrastructure has been repaired as quickly as possible. The team should be congratulated for getting the walk ashore repaired again for the Swan Pool Marina. Guernsey Harbours' technicians and specialist staff worked through the night in order to get to this stage. This repair was complex in its nature, however my team understand the important nature and benefits this equipment provides for visiting boatowners, harbour operations and tourism."

The Local Notices To Mariners 017/2019 will be rescinded once repairs have been completed.
