Guernsey Harbours will close the Model Yacht Pond to the public from Monday 21st January 2019 until 22nd February 2019 for annual maintenance.
The popular facility will be cleaned and general repairs will be made to the structure, and this is more effectively done when the pool is drained.
The Head of Technical & Estate Services - Ports Martyn Stanfield said:
"This is an ideal time of year to drain the Model Yacht Pond when user demand is at its lowest point. Once emptied of water, Guernsey Harbours staff will be cleaning debris out of the Pond, fixing any issues with its walls, supply pipe and drainage. We have worked with the Guernsey Sailing Trust so that the repairs do not affect its teaching programme and do not clash with island school PE lessons. These repairs will help us keep the facility available for those wanting to learn sailing and boating, and for the continued use of model boats."
The Pond on the Castle Emplacement was opened in 1887 with the current structure built in 1950.
